The Shore Dive. Located at the western tip of Lettermullan, this site is very exposed to almost all directions, and hence can only be dived in very calm conditions. To get there, take the R336 from Galway, at Casla (Costello), turn right for Bealdaingean. Follow this road all the way to Lettermullan. Just after the national school on your right, the roads turns right, with a lesser road (boreen), going straight ahead. Take this boreen and turn left after about half a mile. The road is in very poor condition and ends in a grassy area. It is courteous to ask at the farmhouse for permission to park in this area.
Kit
up
in the
grassy area and head south along the path (it?s a fairly tough trek
with a little bit of climbing). There is a gully facing south, this is
where to enter/exit. Out to the left/east of the gully there are some
holes in the reef that you can swim through in about 10 metres. If you
head south or southwest a depth of 20m is easily attained. There?s a
huge variety of fish to be seen here. Other Dives.
Small
ribs
of
inflatables can be launched at half tide at the beach
near the grassy area. This opens up a number of other dives. At
Golam Hd itself, (by the tower), there is a drop-off to 30M. There is
good diving on the south and west of this little island. Fish Rock,
Eagle Rock and Redflag Island all offer interesting possibilities and
are within reach of an inflatable.
